Sarah Walton

Sarah Walton grew up and studied in London. As a child she spent family holidays in Sussex and Cumbria, drawing and painting the landscape during long walks.

Sarah first studied painting at Chelsea School of Art, with landscape becoming her subject. She then moved to three dimensions through the Harrow Ceramic course, and has continued in sculpture for 51 years.

Starting first with pots, Sarah then moved on to birdbaths, imbuing them with the monumentality she saw in the landscape. Today she makes small ceramic sculptures, with the landscape as a starting point. They are not pictorial representations, rather forms that call up our emotional response to landscapes familiar and unknown.
