Sarah Blackaller

Faded forgotten agricultural and industrial buildings are an ongoing theme of Sarah Blackaller’s paintings. Shape colour and light inform her compositions. Using a process of layering and masking, partially covering and revealing, subtle tones and details develop evoking a sense of calm and equilibrium. In recent years Sarah has looked at silos in Sicily, buildings along the River Ouse and oil mills in the Peleponnese, Greece. Her most recent paintings have been in response to the chalk cliffs, the undulations of the land of East Sussex and the changing colours of the landscape during the heatwave summer 2026.

Sarah’s career in Art and Design spans over 40 years. After studying sculpture at Birmingham Polytechnic and Spatial Design at Bournemouth she embarked on a career in freelance illustration, and teaching painting and drawing.

Sarah now spends her time painting in her studios in Lewes and in Greece.
