Roger Adams
Roger Adams was born in London to a botanist mother and photographer father, and later moved to Folkestone where at school he excelled in art and English (and he confesses not much else). After leaving school, he spent two years at a local newspaper before transitioning into an ad agency career as a copywriter, collaborating on creative concepts alongside art directors and design teams.
He has now shifted his focus entirely to painting. At differing times he has enjoyed the tutorage/mentoring of Sussex artists Susie Monnington and Nick Bodimeade, both of who have been critical in helping him develop as an artist and find his voice. Roger’s work is inspired by the human figure and the way it expresses emotion. Central to his practice, the figure may draw from family, found images, or a blend of both. Composition and narrative play significant roles in his work, which often appears deceptively simple and loose, qualities that have garnered a growing appreciative audience. He is married with two daughters and lives in Sussex.
Upcoming: Art for Christmas, A Group Show – 29 November - 14 December 2025
